Round 1 review - Jake finds consistency is the key at Donington

April 3, 2017

Jake Archer completed a stunning recovery to finish 5th in race 1 and again in race 2 at the opening weekend of the Hel Performance Motostar British Championship at Donington Park.

Qualifying didn't go to plan with track conditions pretty wet, Jake only managed a best time of 1:56.652 placing him 16th on the grid for race 1. His team mate Tom Booth Amos placed 2nd behind Irishman Richard Kerr who was 5 seconds quicker setting a time of1:51.081

Race 1 saw an improvement in both weather and track conditions giving Jake an opportunity to improve on the morning session. He quickly made great progress from row 6 in the early laps to sit in 8th position by lap 4. With the front 3 of Booth Amos, Taylor and Kerr pulling away from the pack Jake pushed hard to slip into 6th with Lee Hindle andJoral Boerboom in tow.

Richard Kerr crashed out on the penultimate lap elevating Jake into 5th, a brilliant recovery considering his grid position.

The result elevated Jake up the grid for race 2 on Sunday where he started 4th with team mate Tom Booth Amos on pole.

Race 2 proved eventful for Booth Amos who had made the dream start to lead again only to retire on lap 9 with a technical issue. Archer had settled well into a cluster of riders battling for positions 4 through to 8.

lap after lap the riders swapped places with Jake eventually settling into 5th position and bringing home a valuable haul of 11 points. The Andover rider left Donington with 22 points from the opening round just 7 adrift of early championship leader Eugene McManus Junior.

Jake added;

" I was disappointed with Saturdays qualifying, we struggled a bit in the wet so I am happy to come away with 2 fifth positions and still be amongst the front runners, it shows that being consistent and finishing every race can still pay dividends"

Archer now moves onto the iconic Brands Hatch Circuit for Round 2 over the Easter Weekend 15th - 17th April.
