Two fifth place finishes at Donington in British GP2 Championship
Archer who competes in the British GP2 Championship, on a Kovara Projects by RS Racing Kalex Moto2 machine secured two fifth place finishes on the Donington GP circuit last weekend.
The weekend started damp with FP1 undertaken in the wet. It was dry for FP2 in which Archer set the sixth best time, a 1:36.676. During qualifying on Saturday he sliced a further one and a half seconds off his lap time. He would start sixth for the Sprint Race on Saturday afternoon after recording a 1:35.190.
The 12 lap Sprint Race took place under a cloudy sky with a cool track temperature of just 15 degrees celsius. Due to an unfortunate injury to his team mate, Kyle Ryde, Archer got to start fifth in the GP2 class.
Early on in the race he was running with fellow GP2 racers Jorel Boerboom, Jack Scott and De Vries.
Archer went on to cross the finish line 6th, however a technical infringement by another rider meant he was promoted to fifth in the classification.
On Sunday afternoon, Archer was back out on track for the 18 lap Feature Race. Unfortunately, the bike began to overheat very quickly at the start of the race. He was forced into the pits. A piece of tape had not been removed from the radiator and whilst the problem was quickly fixed it had compromised the number 47’s race.
Archer was able to benefit from the misfortune of two other riders who came together crashing out uninjured, later in the race.
The result was another fifth place finish.
Jake Archer said,” In race one I had a good battle with De Vries and managed to keep him behind me to the flag. The second race was a bit frustrating with the overheating problem but we all make mistakes. Now I am looking forwar to riding the Kalex Moto2 at the final round. I’d like to thank all my sponsors, Kovara Projects, City Lifting, Euroclad, Radmat, Sureweld, HJC Helmets, Freedom Caravans, Griffin Cleaning and Four Ways Property Maintenance.”
