Looking for comeback at Thruxton

After being laid up with tonsillitis and unable to race at round six of the British GP2 championship, Archer is looking to bounce back with a solid performance at his home circuit.

The Kalex Moto2 rider from Andover will compete on the 2.4 mile (3.8 km) Hampshire circuit this weekend. The British GP2 category is a support series to the well-known British Superbike championship. After illness at the last round Archer has slipped to 8th overall with 95 points but is only 17 behind the rider in fifth.

The action gets underway on Friday with two free practice sessions. Then on Saturday the British GP2 riders will be qualifying on track alongside the British Supersport class at 11:10 in the morning.

Saturday afternoon will see the Sprint Race. Those 12 laps could see Archer gain some lost ground and with lap times being used to calculate the grid for the feature race on the Sunday, it is important to do well.

The British GP2 category have a brief warm up on Sunday morning before their second race of the weekend. The 18 Lap Feature Race takes place at 15:40 in the afternoon.

Jake Archer won on this circuit in 2017 in the British Motostar (Moto3) championship in 2017.

Last year, Archer was dominant throughout the year in the Moto3 class taking the title by 63 points. After being taken out in race one he stood on the podium at the circuit after finishing third in race two. He also set the lap record.

Jake Archer said,” I love racing at Thruxton. A lot of people support me throughout the season from the Andover area so it is great to race at this circuit. We will certainly be trying our best to put in a strong performance as a way of saying thank you.”
